How to Use This Calculator
- Enter the total wall length in feet.
- Enter the wall height (default 8 feet for standard construction).
- Select stud spacing — 16" OC for load-bearing walls, 24" OC for non-load-bearing.
- Select the number of corners (each requires a 3-stud assembly).
- Click "Calculate Studs" for your materials list.
The Formula
Studs = (Wall Length in Inches ÷ Spacing) + 1
Corner Studs = Corners × 3
Total = (Studs + Corner Studs) × 1.10
Plates = 3 × Wall Length (1 bottom + 2 top)
Corner Studs = Corners × 3
Total = (Studs + Corner Studs) × 1.10
Plates = 3 × Wall Length (1 bottom + 2 top)
Standard framing uses a single bottom plate and a double top plate. The 10% extra accounts for waste, cripple studs, jack studs, and headers around openings.
